Resource Centre
One of our important challenges was to develop a qualified work force of special educators and create a work environment for them that can sustain involvement and commitment. This motivated us to start a diploma course, recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi for special educators at Prayas. Experts in the field of Disability and Inclusion are invited regularly to the workshops organised by Prayas from time to time. These workshops focus mainly on inclusive education and independent living of disabled children.

The following courses are being conducted in Prayas resource centres for special educators and professionals under the guidance of RCI.

• Foundation Course on Education for Children with Disabilities (FCED) for government school teachers was started in 2006 under SSA (Sarva Siksha Abhiyaan) and Inclusive Education. To date, over 550 teachers have been trained.

The two-year Diploma in Special Education (Mental Retardation) in affiliation with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) was started in 2006. Since then, 8 batches of students have been trained and about 200 special educators have joined various NGOS (including those absorbed by Prayas), government jobs or started their own NGOS. Currently, 2 batches are undergoing training.

CESE-MR course and CRE are also conducted by Prayas under affiliation from RCI. This course focuses on the specialist care/educational requirements of differently-able persons.
